There are a total of 71 individual lessons in the study covering all 21 chapters of the book of John.

Organization

Following a short introduction, each study is subdivided into four sections of questions:

  • OPEN IT. This section has 2-3 questions designed to get you thinking about the topic and open your heart to what God has for you in this lesson.
  • EXPLORE IT. This section has 10-15 questions guiding you through the passage verse by verse.
  • UNDERSTAND IT. This section has 10-15 questions designed to challenge your thinking about the meaning of key elements of the verse.

Tips for Group Study

The Gospel of John study is designed for small groups! Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your group study:

  • Although each lesson is independent, it is recommended that you complete the lessons in the order presented. Select the specific lesson for your group study and provide participants with the lesson handout.
  • Encourage participants to read and study the lesson, answering as many questions as possible ahead of your small group meeting.
  • Open your small group meeting in prayer, asking God to open your hearts and minds to what He has to teach you about integrating your faith into your life through this lesson.
  • Based on the amount of time you have available, guide your group through answering as many questions in the study as possible. Be sure to save time to focus on a discussion of the APPLY IT questions!
  • Although many of the APPLY IT questions relate to life in general, try to keep the application discussion focused on how we can integrate our faith in our lives.
